The ancient Pictish tribal names of "Orcs" and "Cats" giving the names Orkney and Caithness are not the only link between the Counties.
In the Devonian period of geological time, 380 million years ago, Lake Orcadie, a large tropical freshwater lake filled with the first fishes, covered both Counties. Within the lake basin system fine grained muds and sands were deposited to form the flagstone rocks so typical of this region of northern Scotland and are the inspiration for this collection.
